The Spiritual Crossroads of the High Desert
Perched at the edge of the vast San Luis Valley and guarded by the jagged 14,000-foot peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Range, Crestone, Colorado,
is more than just a mountain town. It is a unique cultural experiment—a tiny village that has become a global pilgrimage site for the eco minded, spiritual seekers, artists, stargazers, and lovers of the wild.
A Town of Two Identities
Crestone’s history is a tale of two eras. Founded in 1880 as a mining camp during the Colorado Gold Rush. Today, the “Town of Crestone” itself is home to fewer than 150 residents, though it serves as the surrounding Baca Grande that brings the area’s total population to roughly 2,000.
The famous annual Crestone Energy Fair Event shares innovative, sustainable and regenerative ideas in construction, lifestyle & community on Sept 11th-13th, 2026. Visit www.crestoneenergyfair.org for a complete schedule.
